Props - I love them, selectively. I love props when they enhance the portrait and increase interest. I'm particularly fond of vintage and textured props.
Props can both add interest to the portrait as well as help the subject relax a bit by having an object to help focus.
One simple prop can set a mood for the portrait. A prop adds visual information about the subject. This works with all ages. But it is especially appropriate for children and high school seniors. If a prop that is important to a child or high school senior can be creatively included in a portrait, it captures an aspect of your child's interest at the age of the portrait.
For instance, a doll or a stuffy for your toddler, a guitar for your high school senior, a tea party for your 10 year old. If there is something that has captured your child's interest at a particular age, let's feature it in one of their portraits.
MJLStudios has a collection of vintage toys, antique items, floral, etc and collecting more all the time. We're also increasing our cupboards of unique clothing, scarves and hats. When considering your child's portrait, be sure to consider what prop(s) will add to their story.
